San Diego Herpetological Society is a community for people interested in reptiles and amphibians, whether they keep them at home or enjoy observing them in nature. Meetings and educational activities offer a place for beginners to ask questions and for experienced keepers to share knowledge about care and conservation.

The society also has a rescue and adoption effort supported by volunteers who care for animals in their own homes. It does not operate a public shelter, and a Balboa Park meeting venue is not an animal drop-off location. Start with a meeting for community and learning, or contact the relevant rescue team about fostering, adoption or rehoming.
